Afro-Latino Identity & Belonging | Talk and Book Signing

February 24 10:00 am - 11:45 am

What does it mean to be Afro-Latino? The path to exploring dual-identity and belonging within two communities is a complex and subjective one. In Phoenix, where historic tensions between Latino and Black communities have existed and continue to persist, Gen Z and Millennials are forced to navigate generational Anti-Black bias in their homes, workplace and beyond. Join Tanya Katerí Hernández, a law professor and anti-discrimination expert, author of Racial Innocence: Unmasking Latino Anti-Black Bias and the Struggle for Equality, as she shares the hidden history of Afro-Latinos and the challenges they face in the Latino community, and how we can forge a path toward a just and equitable society.

The first 50 attendees to the program will receive a copy of Hernandez’s book, Racial Innocence: Unmasking Latino Anti-Black Bias and the Struggle for Equality, along with a book signing and reflective Q&A session.
